Apple Considers Offering Cheaper Version of iPhone Mobile Phone

UPDATE:The new iPhone is out, and the price is considerably lower.

Now, while some are a bit miffed (those who stood in lines all night mostly) that the price was lowered so much, and so quickly, there is an upside.

Apple is offering rebates of up to $200 on recent purchases along with purchase credits for $100 for those who bought right away.

Look, the price was sure to come down. It's just that no one really expected it to be this much and so soon.

For those really upset by this, I'll mis-quote comedian and political commentator Bill Maher who said something along the lines of "Congratulations. You've just paid the geek tax."

Early adapters are the types who always pay for the bulk of research and development. They know this, or should. I know I certainly do.

Is it a good thing that the price was dropped so much so suddenly? Depends on if you bought your phone already, I suppose, but it certainly bodes well for the new iPhone and its chances of getting a larger share of the mobile phone market.

It is also a good thing for those who waited to see if all the hype was going to be lived up to. And, frankly speaking, from what I've seen of the new iPhone, and the updates to iPod with the new Touch, I've got to say that it certainly looks as if Apple has another winner on its hands and those who get the latest versions are going to have a fun time using them.

END UPDATE

When the Apple iPhone mobile phone debuted earlier this summer, there were some concerns about the price of the product. Though it featured just about everything that one could hope for in a phone or handheld device, the $600 price tag scared many customers off. That initial purchase cost, when coupled with the high cell phone bills associated with the phone, was simply too much for some consumers to bear. Now, Steve Jobs and the fine folks at Apple are considering offering a new, cheaper version of their Apple iPhone mobile phone to pander to the more conservative spenders.

The new Apple iPhone mobile phone offering is still in the works and no date of debut has been published yet. There is much speculation, however, on what things that the cheaper phone might lack when compared to its more expensive counterpart. Since the original Apple iPhone mobile phone had a huge music capability in holding a couple thousands songs, there is some speculation that the cheaper Apple iPhone mobile phone might have a little bit less capability. It is still expected to pack some musical punch, holding probably half of the songs of the original.

There is some speculation that the new lower end Apple iPhone mobile phone will lack some of the video capability that the original possesses. This seems like a more cost effective solution, but many fear that this sort of alteration would damage the basic premise on which the Apple iPhone mobile phone was created.

Whatever the case, it is a safe bet to assume that Apple will do something to make their new phone one for the masses. The iPod started out as a hit, but soared to astronomical popularity after the price was dropped to accommodate lower end users. A similar move with the new Apple iPhone mobile phone will undoubtedly put Apple on top of the handheld communications world, as well. The phone is known for its ability to do it all, so Apple is unlikely to take away too many of the primary functions. They will, however, create a nice compromise for those consumers who don’t need quite as much power.

An announcement is expected out of the Apple camp in the coming months. They will likely hope to debut the cheaper version of the Apple iPhone mobile phone sometime around Christmas, in order to become a primary gift option.
